Sergeant Pepper back2back Abbey Road: See review

This is a delicate piece of irony that the key album that started a genre of music production studio Progam rock should make such first-class opening half before a live concert.

And when in the second half includes "probably the greatest rock band ever in the" most ambitious work, with the greatest producer and arranger, the odds are against separation significantly lengthen.

All that stood in the way of presentation and Tim Woods Spiritworks Sgt Peppers and Abbey Road Back 2 Back featuring six frontmen SP and an array of some of the finest musicians working in pop scene in Australia.

Add the perfect place in the State Theatre with its quirky blend of kitsch, and such lovely audience, most of whom lived through the years of Beatlemania, and you have a cracking night of nostalgic indulgence.

The scene was with sitar and tabla, accompanied by clouds of incense. These musicians come back later for a large number of the night, George Harrison's within you, without you, they sing beautifully, Mark Seymour of Hunters and Collectors fame.

Colleagues Seymour each had a lot of attention. Shihad frontman Jon Toogood brought down the house - under the mediation of Dean McGrath (Hungry children Hungary) - a large version of the day in his life, complete with string quartet, a small section of horns and guitars, drums and bass, all conducted from the piano music director Stewart D ' Arrietta.

D'Arrietta was on home soil here by sending a sold-out tour of the White album two years ago.

Thomas Irwin, a famous Australian rock fans as Jack Jones from Southern Sons of Glory, proved adept at sensing and melodic material McCartney - in particular, she Leaving Home, - as well as some hot licks shredding guitar I Want You from Abbey Road.

Thirsty Merc Paradise Thistlethwaite, who was born just a few months before John Lennon was shot sounded like a home with Good Morning Good Morning, and when I'm sixty-four years.

And Melbourne singer Tim Morrison (Trial Kennedy) gave a beautiful performance of Something Harrison, once described by Frank Sinatra as the greatest love song ever written.

Group co-led by a monstrously talented man guitar session Rex Goh was impeccable and the atmosphere in the State of spot-on.

Fab Four, and the "fifth Beatle" Sir George Martin, it would be heartily approved.
